I am so excited to visit 3 senior cats that are on special diets and require daily medication in South Edmonton.
Teddy, Tilly, and Tiger are adorable senior tabbies. Teddy is diabetic and needs his insulin 2 times a day. Tilly has a thyroid disorder and needs her thyroid medication once a day. Tiger doesn't need any medication.
I am experienced at administering medication for cats and dogs, so you will have peace of mind that your pets are getting their daily medicine without any problem. I have the ability to administer medication through needles and orally.
At 5 AM, I arrive at the house and gently unlock the door and peek inside. Of course, all three of them are at the door, excited for human interaction! I let myself in carefully through a small opening so that none of them escapes out of the door. I am always very mindful when it comes to the security of your cats, as I know they can be sneaky!
I start off by prepping Teddy's insulin and thyroid medication from the fridge into two syringes. Teddy takes his insulin easily by just injecting into the scruff of his neck. Tilly takes her thyroid medication orally, and she lets me by having her on my lap.
Next is mealtime! All three cats are on a wet food diet, and they each have to eat in their own areas; otherwise, one may steal food from another bowl! I watch them eat for a bit and then head over to the litter box to scoop.
Tiger loves watching me clean the litter box; what a funny boy! After I scoop, I then sweep the floor to clean the scattered litter.
Everyone is done with their meal by now. I scrub and dry their food bowls to have them ready for their second meal later today.
Playtime is our furvorite time! I always carry a bag of toys with me! So the cats will always have something new and cool to play with. I start off playtime with a toy attached to wand and swing it around for the cats to jump and catch! This is always so fun to watch and love to see who jumps the highest! I have catnip toys as well and usually gift them each a catnip toy so they have them to play with when I am not around.
After playtime, I fill up their water bowls with fresh water and give each adorable cat a cuddle. I do a quick head count and leave out the door carefully. I lock the door and send an update to the owner!
The next drop-in visit for the three cats is at 5 PM. I arrive and once again let myself in mindfully. I love seeing their excited faces.
During this visit, only Teddy needs his insulin. So I start off by prepping that and injecting it into his neck.
Meal time is next, and I once again watch them eat for a bit and then head over to the litter box to scoop a second time, as three cats equals lots more in the litter box! I then sweep and clean the surrounding areas.
Once they are all finished their meals, I gather up their bowls and wash them so that they are ready for tomorrow's mealtime. I clean the water bowls and top them with fresh water.
I spend the remaining time playing and cuddling with them! It is important that cats have as much human interaction as dogs do. Cats may seem to be independent animals, but in reality, they need us, especially senior cats. By having me here while their owners are away keeps them happy and stress free.
I do a quick head count to ensure all three are safe and accounted for, and then I leave carefully out the door. I lock the door and send an update to the owner.
The first day is over for my cat drop-in visit, and tomorrow's routine will be the same!
